Due words rotate on the Lock Screen between morning and night. You do not have to clear a badge or open a review queue to see the character.
Missed words return sooner
Grade Again when you missed it and Got it when you knew it. Again shortens the gap before the next review. Got it lengthens it.
New words still arrive in HSK order
Spaced review is not a random pile. New vocabulary enters by HSK level and frequency, after a placement check, and then joins the rotation.
A review app vs a review you already see
The schedule only helps if you meet the word. Dayword puts that meeting on the Lock Screen.

What is spaced repetition for Chinese vocabulary?
Spaced repetition schedules the next review for around the time you would forget the word. Words you miss come back sooner. Words you know wait longer.
Do I have to open a review app every day?
You see the word on the Lock Screen whenever you check the phone. Open Dayword to grade it, hear it, or read the example sentence. The glance does not require a study session.
How does Dayword decide a word is due?
You grade each word Again or Got it. Again brings it back sooner. Got it pushes the next review later.
Is this the same as a Chinese word of the day?
A word of the day introduces something new and moves on. Spaced repetition brings the same word back. Dayword does both: new HSK words enter in order, and due words stay in the rotation.
