Chinese vocabulary test

How many Chinese words do you recognize? Take a short test and get a vocabulary estimate plus a starting HSK study band.

Find your starting point

About 1 minute. Choose “I know it” only if you recognize the word and its meaning.

Your result is available here. No signup required.

What your result means

The test samples written words from HSK 1–6 and checks for guessing with control items. It uses Dayword’s vocabulary engine to estimate recognition, then recommends where to begin studying. Knowing a word on a screen is different from using it in a conversation.

This is an estimate, not an official HSK exam. It does not test listening, speaking, grammar, or writing. Results from a short sample have uncertainty; your practice can refine your starting point.

About the vocabulary test

Is this Chinese vocabulary test free?

Yes. Start the test and see your result without an account, email address, or payment.

Does this give me an official HSK score?

No. It estimates written vocabulary recognition and recommends a starting study band. It does not assess listening, speaking, grammar, or writing, and it is not an official HSK exam.

How does the test work?

You say whether you recognize sampled words from HSK 1–6. Control items help detect guessing. The estimate uses the same selection and scoring engine as Dayword's app. Answer honestly and choose Not yet if you are unsure.

Why might my result be uncertain?

A short recognition test is only an estimate. If the control answers suggest guessing, we withhold a numerical estimate and recommend starting with HSK 1. You can restart the test.
