Privacy Policy

The short version

Dayword stores your learning data on your device. New installations may require Sign in with Apple before choosing a subscription, while previously installed local-only copies may continue without an account. When signed in, your learning data syncs to your account. We use analytics and subscription services to understand and improve the app, operate paywalls and purchases, and measure advertising. We do not sell your personal information.

Information we collect

  • Account information — if you sign in, Apple provides an account identifier and an email address. The address may be Apple's private relay address.
  • Learning and app data — your progress, review history, streak, calibration result, preferences, onboarding choices, and feature interactions.
  • Purchase information — subscription status, product, transaction identifiers, price, and purchase environment. We do not receive your payment-card details.
  • Device, diagnostics, and attribution data — app and OS version, device model, locale, advertising or vendor identifiers where permitted, app events, session-replay wireframes with text inputs and system views masked, and network-performance metadata such as URL, status, duration, and transfer size.
  • Website analytics — if you visit dayword.app, page views, referring site, device and browser information, advertising click identifiers and cookies when you arrive from an ad, and taps on install links.

Information stored on your device

To do its job, Dayword saves the following locally on your iPhone, in the app's own storage and its shared app group container (used so the widget can display your words):

  • Your learning progress — which words you've seen, how you rated them, and when each is next due for review.
  • Your vocabulary calibration result, if you take the optional estimate.
  • Your preferences — daily new-word limit, simplified or traditional characters, and reminder time.

If you sign in, your learning data is also sent to our server so it can sync across your devices. Local data may be included in your iPhone backups under Apple's privacy policy. Deleting the app removes its local data; using Delete all learning data removes local learning data and, while signed in, its synced copy.

Services we use

  • Apple provides Sign in with Apple, App Store purchases, attribution, and device services.
  • PostHog provides product analytics, diagnostics, and session replay in the app, and page-view analytics on this website.
  • Superwall operates paywalls, subscription analytics, and entitlement information.
  • Meta provides advertising measurement when enabled and subject to your iOS tracking choice.
  • TikTok provides advertising measurement on this website when enabled.
  • Airbridge provides advertising measurement and attribution (which ads led to an install or subscription), subject to your iOS tracking choice.
  • Our hosting and database providers process account and synced-learning data on our behalf.

These providers process data under their own terms and our agreements with them. We limit the information we send to what is needed for the purposes above.

Notifications

If you turn on the daily reminder, Dayword schedules a local notification on your device at the time you choose. Local notifications never leave your iPhone and do not involve a push server. You can turn reminders off at any time in the app's Settings or in iOS Settings.

Network access

The app's core vocabulary and example sentences ship with the app. Network access is used for account sign-in and sync, analytics and diagnostics, attribution, subscription services, and optional pronunciation-pack downloads.

Children

Dayword is suitable for general audiences and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13.

Your rights

You can use Delete account in Settings to delete your Dayword account and synced learning data. This does not cancel an App Store subscription; subscriptions are managed through Apple. Analytics and transaction records may remain where necessary for security, fraud prevention, legal compliance, or the service providers' documented retention periods. Contact us to request access, correction, or deletion of other personal information associated with your account.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app or applicable requirements change. Material changes will be reflected by the "last updated" date at the top.
